OCC Lip Tars: Spring/Summer 2012 Swatches & Review

In April I had the honor of attending IMATS NYC as a member of the Press. I was super stoked to hit the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics booth. I had yet to own any of the famous Lip Tars and I had to get my hands on a few to see what all of this hype was about. The line that surrounded OCC on Saturday was that of something you’d see at an amusement park waiting to get on the hottest new roller-coaster. <–True Story. Thanks to one of OCC’s brilliant makeup artists, Risa, I was able to get close to take a peek at the new Spring/Summer 2012 Line and play a bit.

What is a Lip Tar?

OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Oh and bonus it is incredibly smooth in texture and application so do not let the word “Tar” throw you.

The Formula

I have a confession: I never purchased the Lip Tars in the past because I was concerned with the word “Tar”. I made an unfounded assumption that they would be sticky and sticky and I do not mesh. The Lip Tars are smooth in texture, and pack an incredible amount of pigmentation with the teeny-tiniest drop. Because the consistency is satin-like they apply like a dream, and blend well with other lip tars to create custom shades. There is a mild ”Mint” scent from the peppermint oil ingredient and I absolutely adore it. The formula is also vegan as is every product that OCC offers. The lasting power was certainly as good as my favorite lipsticks, and much better than most glosses that I have tried.

Overall Thoughts

TWO WORDS: ”I’M ADDICTED“! I am ashamed for not trying the brand sooner to be honest. While there are some “wild” shades that I wouldn’t be able to pull off, the range is so diverse that there is something for everyone. One caution that I have is not to apply too much as this will cause pooling/feathering around your lip lines. The OCC #010 Precision Lip Brush is brilliance, and if you are using it to apply your lip tar you will have no issues applying the perfect amount of color. The brand is heaven for those of you that like to create custom shades, the color options are endless.
